Patrick Pitter M.D. is a Jamaican-born,
retired General Practitioner who resides in
Brooklyn, N.Y. He has been a regular
contributing writer to health columns of
various publications.

There aren’t enough hours in the busy days of Dr. Patrick Pitter, the middle-aged, retired Brooklyn physician, known as the
“Caribbean Family Doctor” and is widely
credited to be the founder of the concept of "health fairs" where one would have his,
or her, blood pressure, blood sugar, HIV
test, etc. taken for free. He has been a
community activist and a strong advocate
of preventative medicine.
Born on the island of Jamaica, in the district of
Swabys Hope, a small enclave in the parish of
Manchester. He describes his birthplace as “a
place so small that it is not even mentioned
on the official map of Jamaica”.
The Pitter family is very prominent there and are
small-scale cattle ranchers and coffee growers.
Dr. Pitter excelled in elementary school studies
at both Ebenezer and Hatfield schools in
Manchester, Jamaica. He then migrated to the U.S.
at age 14, to join his mother, also a now-retired healthcare professional.

In New York, he attended Aviation High
School, the City College of New York and
Columbia University School of General
Studies. He studied medicine at La
Universidad del Noreste in Mexico
and New York Medical College. He
did his residency at Brookdale
Hospital in Brooklyn. He practiced in
Brooklyn and lives there with his wife,
and their teen daughter.
Dr. Pitter is also president of
Pitter-Patter Enterprises, Inc.

computer literacy, the preservation
and advancement of music and
Afro-Caribbean folk art.
He is an amateur reggae musician and
songwriter who plays guitar and keyboards
and performs by the moniker "Rasputin".
He is a former executive producer, director
and writer of “Rockers”, a very popular reggae
video and interview show which is hosted by
the veteran radio and T.V. personality, Earl
“Rootsman” Chin.
“Rockers TV” seen in the New York Tri-State
area on W-N-Y-E T.V., channel 25 for more
than 20 years . “Reggae music is my pulse,
and as long as I’m alive, I will promote it. Nuff
respect! to all the brethren and sistren out
there spreading the good vibrations” says
the musical medicine man.
Success did not come easy and Dr. Pitter
attributes it to “hard work”. Says he, “Hard
work never killed anybody, it pays off”. Dr.
Pitter is a jack-of-all-trades who says,”I can’t
think of anything that I can’t do pretty well, and
I will do anything worthwhile to survive. I have
peddled toys on the streets of New York,
driven taxis, emptied bedpans, waited tables,
and more... I've been there... done that. I put
my heart into everything I do. My day begins
early and ends late, and my brain never sleeps.
I do crossword puzzles in my sleep. I don’t understand a person who complains of 'boredom'
..... what’s that?” he queries and continues, “A
person who is bored a non-thinker and is probably needs to have a brain transplant”.

Dr. Pitter credits his inspiration to “Jah and to the wonderful women in my life, my late grandmother, my mother, my elementary and
high school teachers, my lovely wife, my darling
daughter and my two sisters. I also have male
role models and heroes like my father,

Ambrose Pitter...men such as Paul Bogle, Marcus
Garvey, Malcom X, Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.,
Muhammad Ali, Bob Marley, Harry Belafonte,
Sidney Poitier, George Washington Carver, Paul
Robeson, David Livingstone, Abraham Lincoln, Khalil Gibran.....only to name a few. However, the
women are first and foremost in my life.
Without the wonderful women in my life, I would be
nowhere today. I encourage all boys, young men and
old, to respect the value of “family” and to give
particular respect to the female members of our
families. I beg of all lyric ists and singers to write
and sing positive messages about our precious girls
and our wonderfull and deserving women. I also
want to implore all successful 'men of color' to first
look in our 'own backyards' when ready to choose

Dr Pitter is also a community activist who lectures
youth on self esteem, educational goals, the evils
of drug abuse and violence. He is articulate, has
a “gift of gab” and a great sense of humor. He is
also a motivational speaker who is often asked to
be master-of-ceremonies at social events.
This multi-faceted physician presided over a
thriving practice in Brooklyn. In his office you
found a cross-section of visitors which ranged
from babies to teenagers young adults and
senior citizens. You could also bump into
reggae and rock superstars who were his
patients or just celebrity friends passing through.
Dr Pitter, also known as “Rasputin” plans to
release his first CD shortly. It boasts an impressive
reggae/hip-hop crossover tune entitled “(Ya gotta)
Roll Wid Tha Punches” which features Rasputin
and a neophyte hip-hop rapper named “Hysman”.
The CD also showcases a humorous reggae/soca
song "Don't Buy Noh Puss Innah Di Bag" which has
great possibilities. So Dr “Rasputin” Pitter warns
“Shaggy, you better watch out".
